Soldier's Life
The life of a Soldier in the 1860's was hard, and thousands of people left home to fight. It was something they wouldn't forget. They were away from their families for months at a time. They had a small amount of food and shelter. They spent their days on the hot, dusty roads, and they had to pack enough things to make their lives as comfortable as they could. It was very difficult to accustomed to the Army life.

Weapons
There were a variety of small weapons in the Civil War. the Average soldier had a musket. It had a bayonett at the end of the barrel for hand-to-hand combat, but was used to grind coffee beans and hold candles out of combat. The bullets were made of a soft lead that left wounds that were hard to heal. Cavalrymen had carbines, sabers, and pistols to aid them in battle. Cavalry were used to guard supply trains, as well as scouting. Artillery, Cavalry, Signal Corps, Engineers, and Medical and Hospital Corps.

In the first three days of July 1863, the Battle of Gettysburg was one of the most important battles of the Civil War. The fate of the nation hung in the balance. It was the second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Despite the Confederate success, the battle turned on Lee onj the 3rd of July, and with few options remaining, the general sent his army back to Virginia. The victory not only meant Lee's retreat, but it ended the hopes of the confederacy of independance.
